1st week of exams
hey and welcome back to 'diaryofanoverthinker',as promised I'm starting the whole exam studying theme instead of the dark murderous theme from the past few weeks. I started exams this week and I thought I'd give you an exam review for my 1st week of term 4 exams. So sit back relax and enjoy!
First exam
So my first exam was English which was quite chilled, it was a 2 hour exam consisting of a comprehensions visual text advert ,a summary and language questions. Honestly this was one of the better English papers I wrote except the one or two questions where I was like "this makes no sense" but turns out everyone thought that so I guess that means I'm ok.
Genuinely this was the best first paper you could ask for and I was actually really relived it wasn't to hard, becasue for someone who speaks English that English marks would shock you. Then again I'd probably care a lot more about English if my English lessons felt like the ones in the 'Dead Poets Society' but that's impossible so it ok.
The rest of my exams
Tuesday was a mix of relief and horror. I had Financial Literacy and History. Financial Literacy went surprisingly well,I knew what I was doing, and there was no stress. I understood everything in the paper, and I was honestly relieved because I had been a little stressed about that paper.
Now, History was a whole different story. It started off well, I understood most of the questions and could form solid answers. But then, I hit the essay question, and it was a complete disaster. The question was about how the Treaty of Versailles set the stage for World War II. Now understand that the last sentence in our textbook basically said, “...in many ways, this treaty led to the rise of Hitler and World War II,” so I had no idea what to write. I wrote an essay that somewhat made sense, but I'm not even sure if it was accurate. The fact that almost everyone else seemed to be writing something similar gave me a little hope that maybe my teacher would give me a few marks but I'm still going to loose a ton of marks since that is the most important section. So, History was good until that essay question threw me off.
Then came Wednesday, which went much better than I expected. I had my Math P1 exam, which focused on algebra. I actually like algebra more than geometry, but that doesn’t mean I’m good at it. I can solve for x and do substitution, but those algebraic expressions give me a headache, and I feel complete lost most of the time . So, I was nervous about this exam, but once I sat down to write, it was so easy and I was relieved. When my teacher marked our papers, she said I definitely got an A, which was such a relief. The fact that I had studied so hard and the exam turned out easier than expected was an amazing feeling.
Thursday was a big day for me because it was the NS exam, which is the subject I care most about. I was prepared, but also stressed because you never really know what’s going to come out, so I had to study everything in detail. When I finally sat down to write the paper, it wasn’t too bad, though there were a few sections that threw me off. I know those might cost me some marks, but overall, I think I did well enough to be fine.
Finally, on Friday, I had Islamic History and Geography. Islamic History was honestly one of the best papers I’ve ever written. The questions were straightforward, and I knew the answers almost immediately. I felt so good about it that I actually had to stop myself from smiling too much during the exam,if I smiled any more, people might have thought we were cheating or something, especially since the whole grade was smiling . But yeah, it was a solid paper and a great way to end the week. Untill Geography happened.
Let me just say, Geography never feels like you're actually learning Geography, and the paper almost never makes sense. So, it’s safe to say the whole grade was stressing over it. When I sat down to write the paper, I knew quite a bit, but then there were some questions that didn’t even make sense. I genuinely had no idea what was going on with those. So, yeah, between that History paper and the Geography paper, it’s safe to say my SS mark is going to suck.
My overall opinion on this week.
Honestly, for my first week of exams, it wasn’t that bad, especially considering this week was the absolute worst, since it was all the difficult subjects except Afrikaans. There were definitely moments when I actually wanted to give up because, well, no, but for the most part, it went well. After having a good Math paper, nothing really seemed like it could get me down.
All in all, I’d say it was a good week, even with a few downsides like the Geography papers that don't make sense and History essays . But, after this week, everything should go smoothly, except maybe Geometry. But if I study hard enough, maybe it won’t be all that bad....right?
Oh well that was my first week of exams, one week down two more to go. I hope everyone else's first week if exams went ok and I wish you the best of luck for next week.
until next timee
