Tips for grade 7's

Tips for grade 7's

Heyy and welcome to diaryofanoverthinker today I’ll be giving tips for anyone in grade 7 or starting grade 7 since I’m getting close to finishing it and it’s been one of the craziest years so far . So sit back relax and enjoy!

Stationary

When it comes to stationary there’s 3 things you need to know.

1.     If you borrow someone a pen/pencil  you’re 100% never seeing that thing ever again. So either don’t share or keep a few spares.

2.     Keep lots of colour pens and highlighters the reason is there’s a few times in the year when you need colour for important notes and using the same three colours all the time make it harder .

3.     Lastly bring a few rulers because those things get lost or break all the time especially when you get older.

Notebooks

Honestly notebooks become more important than textbooks at some point. This is because  most teachers end up giving you worksheets which are basically summarizes or making you write them therefore you’ll almost never study from the text book.

For math you’d honestly want to get a grid book it makes everything a lot easier. Your spacing is usually better when using the column method and it makes drawings/diagrams easier. Another thing is math teachers seem to love them.

Lastly buy extra notebooks the reason for this is teachers give extra notes they don’t want in your actual book and using a spare notebook instead of scrap paper is a lot better. It also helps to have separate books for study notes so all your notes are neat in different books. I suggest buying an A5 because they’re small and helpful but it’s up to you.

Bags

GET A BIG BAG! I can’t exaggerate this enough I know getting a pretty aesthetic bag is fun but if it’s small you are going to struggle. Your books are thick and you carry them home almost every weekend/public holiday and you carry all before exams. You’ll also need to fit a ring file in there at some point along with all the extra stuff like lunch, pencil cases etc  so make sure to get a big bag it is really helpful.

Friends

Now this is the grade before high school(your teachers won’t stop mentioning this so get use to it) that means everything and I mean everything changes and friends is one of the biggest things. You’ll start the year with 4/5 solid groups but as the year goes they’ll break up/add new members and a lot more. Now you can’t avoid this but you can have a back up plan which is simple

1.     Be nice/talk to everyone in your class it will help trust me because then the chances of you having friends after is a lot higher

2.     Have friends in other grades. This may be hard at 1st but once you have 1 it gets easier to have tons and it will help because you can sit with them sometimes and it doesn’t have to be everyday so make friends in other grades it’s helpful.

3.     Lastly have small activities that happen in break  so if you don’t have friends you’ll be busy and make friends in these activities. E.g bookclub ,help teachers , study with classmates or just read if you like reading

Teachers

I know some teachers are a pain but start making sure they like you because believe it or not some of them can be really helpful or really nice people outside class to help with school, friends, studying etc . Besides most of these teachers will teach you till grade 12 so get used to them it helps. Plus if you don’t give them a reason to hate you school will actually be really fun

School events

Lastly if your school as a weekend event GO! I know it’s not the ideal way to spend your Saturday but your teachers go through a lot to organize it and actually look forward to interacting with you outside of school and it might actually end up being really fun. It’s honestly really good to go for school events or to take part in competitions. For the competitions it’s a lot of work but it’s fun when you’re called up in assembly or when only a few of you get to represent school somewhere and miss school. So excursions, lunches ,competitions etc  start attending them you’ll make great memories and you won’t regret it.
