Cape Town 25

hey and welcome to 'diaryofanoverthinker'. Today, I’ll be telling you all about my trip to Cape Town. Before I begin, I hope you all had an amazing holiday too whether you travelled somewhere or just enjoyed some time at home. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy my yapping about one of my favourite places!
Saturday 04/10
So, on Saturday we had just arrived in Cape Town, and by the time we checked into the hotel, it was already around 3 or 4 o’clock. Since we were staying near the Waterfront, we decided to take a walk around. After wandering around for a bit, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up before going out for dinner at Saray.
We ordered a mezze platter, which came with incredible breads and dips we ended up filling ourselves up on those before the main course even arrived. For our main, we shared a mixed grill, since we were already pretty full. Everything was absolutely delicious and left us feeling nicely satisfied.
After dinner, we strolled around a bit more before heading back to the hotel to relax. We were pretty tired from the day of traveling and ended up falling asleep not long after.
Sunday 05/10
On Sunday, we woke up late and took our time getting ready for the day. By the time we were all set, it was already quite late, so we headed to The Butcher’s Wife for lunch. We started with this amazing baguette (it was filled with something delicious, but I honestly can’t remember exactly what!). For mains, we shared steak, pasta, and a pot pie we all just alternated between the dishes because, let’s be honest, that’s the best way to try everything. Everything was absolutely delicious, and I really enjoyed the meal.
After lunch, we went to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and spent a good amount of time walking around, taking photos, and just enjoying the peacefulness of nature. I even saw the cutest little duckies they were sooo adorable! I actually ended up enjoying Kirstenbosch way more than I expected. The views were stunning, it was super green and pretty, and I took so many cute pictures. It also helped that the weather was surprisingly lovely well for Cape Town anyways.
Later, we tried heading to Sea Point for a walk along the promenade, but the traffic was crazy, and we didn’t have much time my dad was technically in Cape Town for work, and we had just tagged along for the trip. So instead, we went back to the hotel to say goodbye to him as he had to leave for another hotel where his work meetings were taking place.
After that, we met up with my mom’s sister (who was also there with us), and we walked around the Waterfront and browsed the mall—because, well we're just girls. After a good amount of walking and chatting, we made our way back to the hotel around 7 PM to relax for a bit since we’d been on our feet most of the day.
Later in the evening, we went back to the mall for a simple dinner at Nando’s we weren’t in the mood for anything too fancy or hectic. After dinner, we just chilled in the hotel room, watched some TV, and eventually drifted off to sleep.
Monday 06/10
Monday was an absolute rollercoaster but honestly, it turned out to be one of the best days of the entire trip. I’ll probably remember it for the rest of my life.
So, my mum, my aunt, and I decided to take the Red Hop-On Hop-Off Bus because it's one of the best ways to explore the city and get to Table Mountain. The day started off well we found the ticket office pretty easily, got our passes, and hopped on the bus. It was a bit windy, but nothing too dramatic, so we weren’t too bothered.
Our first stop was Clifton Beach, where we got off for a short stroll. The beach was beautiful as always, and we just enjoyed being by the ocean. After that, we hopped back on the bus… and that’s when the chaos began.
We took the bus up to Table Mountain, but of course classic Cape Town it was super cloudy and windy at the top. There wasn’t much we could do up there, so we came back down and decided to take another walk at Clifton while figuring out Plan B. Eventually, we thought we might as well grab something to eat and try again later if the weather cleared up.
So we went to Wembley’s for lunch, and oh my gosh the food was incredible. Honestly, that meal was the highlight of my day. We ended up staying there for about an hour, but it was totally worth it.
After eating, we gave Table Mountain one more shot because the weather looked slightly better. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. The higher up we went, the worse it got it actually started raining this time! At that point, we just looked at each other and said, “Yeah, nope.” We were already full from an amazing lunch and kind of over the whole Table Mountain mission, so instead, we just laughed it off and enjoyed the bus ride. I mean, we’d all been up there before, so it wasn’t that deep.
We eventually got off at Sea Point for a nice, peaceful walk, which ended up being the perfect way to wrap up our chaotic day. Looking back now, it doesn’t even seem that hectic but at the time, it felt like such a whirlwind. Still, it was hands down my favourite day of the trip.
Tuesday 07/10
uesday was more chilled compared to the other days, mainly because my aunt had to leave later that day—but we still got to spend a lovely morning together.
We started at one of my absolute favourite places in Cape Town the Scratch Patch and Cave Mini Golf. My mini golf skills have definitely improved, and I was actually really proud of how I played! After our game, we browsed the small jewellery shop just outside and the scratch patch itself, where we picked up a few little things to take home.
Next, we headed to the Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa). The building was absolutely stunning, and the art inside was really cool. I honestly had such a great time there it was a simple but fun way to wrap up our time with my aunt in Cape Town.
After the museum, we went back to Saray for lunch. This time, we each got our own meal—I had a wrap, and it was sooo good! Then it was time to say goodbye to my aunt, which was a little sad, but we were happy to have spent such quality time together.
Later that day, once my dad returned from work (it was his last day of meetings), we decided to go for a sunset walk along Sea Point. It was such an amazing walk—the views, the fresh air, and the overall vibe were just perfect. We had a lot of fun and, of course, took more amazing pictures!
To end the day, we went back to Nando’s for a casual dinner, and then headed back to the hotel to just relax and watch some TV before calling it a night.
And that brings me to the end of my trip because well Wednesday was our last day and mostly consisted of packing up and rising to the airport. I hope you enjoyed todays blog.
Until next time
