Favourite Author
Heyyyyyy and welcome back to dairyofanoverthinker today I’ll be talking about my new found favourite author. Before I start I just want to give u a little update on my series well it’s not finished but I’m not gonna post a new one every week sooo yeah. So sit back relax and enjoy.
Who
So recently I discovered a new author of short stories and I loved him,his name Edgar Allen Poe . So recently I had an English Research Project and the story was the Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe and before that we did a comprehension on the Tell Tale Heart I began to like Poe’s work and now he is 100% one of my favourite authors.
Why
I love Edgar Allen Poe for many reasons but one of them is because his stories are so simple yet they grab your attention and are full of suspense. The thing about Poe’s stories is he always portrays emotions in ways other authors don’t (they could be but out of the ones I know he is the only).
In the tell tale heart at first he is just determined to get rid of the eye because he is scared and that paranoia and nervousness is portrayed in such a way readers think he’s mad and he could have been but really he was just scared. It went to a deep part of his thought to a point we’ve all felt the same way where we’re so scared or paranoid we think we’ve lost our minds.
Towards the end he shows guilt and even more fear all this put together makes suspense and gets us to question his sanity in a way I never have when it comes to stories .
Was he insane
Now a lot of my classmates joked that he was insane or expressed concern for his mental health and while it wasn’t so common back then he did in fact suffer from recurrent depression, suggesting a bipolar disorder, as well as alcohol and drug abuse, which in fact led to his death from complications related to alcoholism. Honestly I was shocked at first but then realized it really isn’t that big of a surprise.
Conclusion
In conclusion I love Poe despite my discovery about his mental health, his stories are amazing and continue to live on from the 1800’s. Poe is an amazing author and I am glad I learned about him.
