Gr 10

Gr 10

Heyyy and welcome to 'diaryofanoverthinker'.Today, I’ll be telling you all about my experiences as a Grade 10 learner.I know my first week was technically last week, but I had more important things to share at the time and honestly, I was still adjusting.

So this week, you guys are getting a full-on review of how things have really been.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

The jump

Guys, why is everything so serious? Like, sure, Grade 9 had pressure and all, but we still had fun.

Now it feels like all the teachers want to do is work. What happened to introductions on the first day? Instead, it’s straight into “this is the foundation of matric” and boom you’re already doing work. Like… what even??

Everything is so hectic and I’m lowkey overwhelmed, but at the same time, it’s kinda nice.

It’s just a lot. What I do know though is I need to lock in this year like for real.

S7

Okay, so Grade 9s of 2026 if you’re seeing this:
When the Grade 10–12s tell you that subject choices are a lot, and you think you know better… please know they are right. I mean, sure, that probably won’t stop you, but seriously if you don’t need  S7, do not take it. Because yoh… I am cooked.

Accounting

Okay, this is the one subject where I actually know what’s going on. Like genuinely. Accounting is the only subject that hasn’t confused me on multiple levels yet.
That being said, it’s still early days and the work is either easy or stuff I’ve already done, so we’ll see how that goes. But honestly, I don’t think it can get that hard, so I’m feeling pretty good about this one.

Physics

Now… this one? Mixed feelings.
I go from confused → understanding → confused again within seconds, and honestly, what even is that? I can do the classwork with full understanding, but the problem is I know that in exams I’m going to be way less confident because classwork is always easier.
So yeah, I’m kinda stressed about it. But you know what? Sometimes you just have to study, do a million past papers, and bismillah your way through.

Life Sciences

So far, we’ve only done investigative questions, graphs, and all of that, and it’s going well.
But I am hella scared for when we actually start doing the real work… because yeah.

Other subjects

So my main subjects aren’t actually that bad it’s just a lot more work. But honestly, it’s okay.

I’m especially excited for English. Sure, Shakespeare is a bit confusing and all, but I genuinely love English. I love literature, I love essays, and I’m actually really excited for this subject.

The rest of my subjects feel mostly the same, just with more work and slightly more complex content. But overall? It’s okay.

Overall

am 100% freaking out because what do you mean I’m already this close to matric?? Like nooo I’m still a kid.

And why is everyone saying how fast it’s all going to go? Also, what do you mean my tests are already starting??

But at the same time, I think if I really lock in and actually pay attention, everything will be okay.

And maybe just maybe I can get through this year in one piece.

Also, mixed classes aren’t as bad as I thought. Low-key, it’s actually kinda chilled.I mean, sometimes it’s a bit annoying having to move places and all, but it could definitely be worse. So yeah even that’s not so bad.

Well that's about it I hope you enjoyed todays blog and I hope all of your New Years are going well.

Until next time
