Not Romantic,Just A Homicide

Hey and welcome to 'diaryofanoverthinker'. Now, if you follow my blog, I know you’re probably a little confused — you were expecting today’s post to be about The Summer I Turned Pretty finale. Buttt… this whole situation with a girl’s body being found in DV4D’s car has officially spiraled, and I have to talk about it.

Like, I genuinely can’t find ways to defend him anymore. It’s gone past messy and straight into disturbing.

So sit back, relax (or try to), and let me walk you through the dark backstory behind some of the songs we all thought we knew.

What happened

For those of you who don’t know about it or haven’t heard the full story, let me explain. Popular singer David, mostly known as DV4D, went on tour sometime around August (I’m not 100% sure—I tried to do some research and found that in The Guardian). Then, on or around September 8th, a girl’s body was found in a Tesla registered under his name after people reported a strong odor coming from the car.

At first, many people—myself included—thought maybe he was being framed. After all, he was already away on tour, so how could he have murdered someone? No one wanted to believe that one of their favorite artists could be involved in something this dark.

But things started looking worse. The body was severely decomposed, meaning it had likely been in the car for quite a while. The girl was identified as Celeste Rivas, a 15-year-old who had been missing since April 2024. We still don’t know exactly how she died, but the LAPD is currently treating it as a homicide case.

Little timeline of events:

  • April 2024 — Celeste Rivas is reported missing from Lake Elsinore, CA.
  • August 2025 — DV4D allegedly leaves for tour (according to The Guardian).
  • Early September 2025 — Neighbors complain about a foul odor coming from a parked Tesla.
  • September 8, 2025 — A decomposed body is found in the front trunk of the Tesla registered to DV4D.
  • Shortly after — The body is identified as Celeste. LAPD opens a homicide investigation.

Not to mention, around December 2023, an unreleased demo called “Celeste” leaked online, and the lyrics were... well, pretty terrifying, clearly referencing Celeste herself. Naturally, people started making connections. I’ve also seen a lot of talk about them having matching tattoos on their index fingers. Plus, one of his popular songs—the very first one I ever heard—is called “Romantic Homicide.” To make it worse, several other songs seem linked to her or reference her in some way and were released on her birthday. Honestly, it all feels a little too creepy to ignore.

A bit more about their relationship

Before I dive into the details, I want to say that since this case is still very recent, not everything I share may be 100% accurate. Even though I’ve done my best to research and verify information, some details might be incomplete, misinterpreted, or influenced by rumors, especially given how much this story has spread on social media.

Celeste’s former teacher revealed that she met DV4D online when she was around 11 years old and that she once ran away with him to Hollywood, but was later found and returned by the police. Celeste’s mother was also aware that her daughter was involved with someone named David, which aligns with DV4D’s real name.

According to the teacher, Celeste’s family was deeply concerned about her relationship with DV4D, especially because of her young age and the fact that she had attempted to run away with him. Additionally, the relationship appeared to be very private and possibly controlling, raising serious worries about her safety and well-being. The significant age difference, combined with the secretive nature of their connection, likely heightened those concerns. However, it remains unclear whether any formal actions were taken by the family or authorities at that time.

My thoughts

Honestly, at first I thought maybe he was being framed. But after everything that’s come out — and after spending so much time digging into it — it’s honestly just disturbing. Even if he didn’t kill her (which, let’s be real, seems unlikely), he was clearly involved in some way.

And I’m not going to lie — if her family, or even her teacher, knew what was going on and were genuinely concerned, why didn’t they put a stop to it? Even if they didn’t report it, someone should’ve stepped in. If that were my parents — or even me, I would’ve made her block him or cut contact completely. That’s not something you just let slide, especially after she literally tried to run away with him.

Of course, he’s disgusting for all of this — but I also honestly blame the adults in Celeste’s life. She was just a kid. Eleven years old. And they should’ve protected her.

Now I can’t even listen to his songs the same way. Every single one of them feels disturbing now — and honestly, it seems like they were always meant to be. What’s even worse is how his music feels like evidence in plain sight. Like, seriously, why name a song after her? Why release multiple tracks on her birthday? Even if he didn’t commit murder, the obsession is obvious. He left a trail.

And maybe that’s what annoys me the most. Clearly something is wrong with him, but it’s almost like he wanted to be caught. Or maybe he just didn’t care. Either way, it’s infuriating when people do things that are so obviously self-incriminating — like, was he trying to confess through his music or was he just being dumb? Was this all intentional?

Also, I just need to say: why is it that every few months another person in the music industry gets exposed for talking to kids, or allegedly doing something with minors? It’s getting way too common and way too dark. This entire situation is just messed up beyond words.

Honestly, this case is completely insane. As disturbing as it is, I can’t lie — I’m really interested to see how things play out. I just hope it doesn’t turn into another Diddy-type situation where he somehow walks away or gets off easy. That would be unbelievably frustrating.

I’m also still stuck on the question of the adults in Celeste’s life — her family, her teachers. If they were genuinely concerned, why didn’t anyone take stronger action? It just doesn’t make sense to me, and I think a lot of us are wondering the same thing and I think theres probably more to that part of the story.

Anyway, I hope you found this blog post interesting — maybe not enjoyable (for obvious reasons), but hopefully it gave you something to think about. And I hope some of my thoughts or opinions mirrored yours because I love when I find people with similar opinions on the internet and I want to be that for some people too.Thank you so much for reading

Until next time
