Overthinking

Overthinking

Are these actually problems or is my overthinking creating them? Heyyy and welcome to diary of an overthinker! Today I’ll be talking about overthinking. This blog will consist of 3 parts positives, negatives and ways to help when overthinking. So sit back and enjoy this blog.

Positives

Now you must be thinking what are the positives to overthinking it sucks and makes everything complicated. I felt that way at first too but there’s a few positives about overthinking after all. How many times have you overthought a project or test and went back to change something and it turned out to be right? A few times right so overthinking can be helpful when it comes to school work because if you didn’t overthink you could have gotten it wrong and your mark could change significantly. Another positive is if it helps with self development, with overthinking you tend to over assess everything little thing you do. This can help you spot out a few bad habits and you can fix it. Now I know these aren’t a lot of positives but it’s better than all negative right ?

Negatives

Now we all know overthinking sucks and it can kinda feel overwhelming and kinda like the following images

A few of the negatives are when you start loosing sleep just because you’re overthinking something that happened 5 years ago or an argument from a week ago. It also becomes bad when it starts consuming you making you distant, distracted and sad or overwhelmed. You also start creating problems that aren’t even there and you overthink it wasting time and then never having to solve that problem. Another negative is you’ll over asses the smallest thing and end up making things worst for yourself. Basically that’s the main negatives and you need to be able to identify them in order to help yourself.

Ways to help you

Now if I’m being I’m being honest there’s no way to completely stop overthinking unless you get medication but those have side effects that could be worse so I don’t advise that. While you can never fully stop it you can distract yourself so I’ll give you 5 tips on how to stop overthinking that I think help.

1. Talk to someone- tell someone you trust that you’re overthinking and explain what you’re thinking about, once it’s out of your system you’ll feel much better and probably stop at least for a while.

2. Distract yourself- when you identify you’re overthinking in a negative form try doing something fun or productive to keep your mind busy and off the topic you’re overthinking

3. Journal- write in your diary or make a special journal for overthinking where you write all your thoughts because just like talking you’ll get it out your system and feel better

4. Wellness journal- I’m sure you’ve all seen those aesthetic journals make one and add positive thoughts or write calming things in it and when you’re overthinking read it until you feel better.

5. Drawing- keep a doodle book and draw how you feel how overthinking feels and just get it out onto paper till you stop thinking.

These 5 techniques are helpful and to be honest you should use all as only doing one won’t help because once you get used to it ,it’ll stop helping. As I said you can never truly get rid of overthinking but this will make it a little easier.

I hope you found this helpful and you’ll give the methods a try. I’d also like to say all the drawings aren’t mine and are off the internet. Thank you so much for reading and as always if you have any questions or suggestions for future blogs just email me at adiaryofanoevrthinker@gmail.com .
