Random Book Talk

Hey and welcome to 'diaryofanoverthinker' today I will be talking about a book that has me in shambles Fearless by Lauren Roberts. Now if you've read my past blogs you would know I love the Powerless series but each book has left me hating and loving Lauren even more. Her new book is no different so sit back ,relax and enjoy me yap about Fearless(unless you haven't read to because this will have spoilers).
The Plot
Okay, I honestly can’t deny it—the plot of Fearless was beyond amazing. The twist with Paedyn being Kitt’s half-sister? That was such a good reveal. I kind of saw it coming when reading Edric’s POV, but the fact that they only discovered it after the wedding added so much complexity. It was incredibly messed up, but it made the plot so much deeper
Paedyn’s connection to the royal family also explained so much—like the king’s hatred toward her and the Ordinaries. It all started making sense, piece by piece, and it was so satisfying to see how everything slowly came together.
And then the reveal that Kai isn’t Edric’s son? That twist explained a lot. The resentment, the coldness, the way Edric treated him—it all made sense. That family drama was intense, but it added so much richness to the characters and their relationships.
What I really loved was how everything, in some way, tied back to Edric. His lies and all the covering up essentially ruined Kitt, Kai, and Paedyn in different ways. And once you get to Kitt’s spiral into madness, reading his notes makes it hit even harder. You realize it was almost all Edric’s fault—because he never learned how to be anything other than what his father wanted. That fear of losing the only person he truly loved—Kai—twisted him so badly that he turned his love for his brother into hate for Paedyn. It was heartbreaking.
Also the plague being man made, made so much of sense and it really explain all the flaws and loopholes of the Elites and Ordinaries. It also explain why Ava was so sick and it really showed the extent of Edrics greed for power.
The generational trauma, the impossible expectations, the deep emotional scars—they all made the story so much more than just a fantasy. It was raw and real in the best kind of way.Not to mention Lauren somehow made me love a fantasy book so much because of all the layers she added it was really something.

Kitt
Kitt did not need to die. That’s all I have to say—because that was just pure cruelty. I know a lot of people started hating Kitt after Reckless, but he was a genuinely good character. When you read his notes after his death, you realize how confused and lost he really was. He wasn’t evil—he was hurting.
And let’s not ignore the fact that Lauren made Kai kill him. I know it was a mistake, but that’s exactly what made it so much worse. She even hinted at Kitt’s death earlier in that sparring scene where he forgot to dodge—so when the real fight started and Kai was just trying to distract him, I saw it coming… but it still broke me.
We could’ve had a happy ending with him alive. I get that he was jealous of Paedyn and wanted it to be just him and Kai like it used to be, but his death wasn’t the solution. It was unnecessary. Kitt could’ve come to his senses. They could’ve healed. They could’ve all lived. And let’s be honest, Kai never wanted to be king.
This book honestly made me love Kitt more than ever. He had so much depth that was missing in the first two books. For the first time, I really understood him—his pain, his fear, his love. And now, all I feel is sadness that he’s gone. And that epilogue? It wasn’t needed. It didn’t offer peace. If anything, it just deepened the heartbreak.Like what do you mean he isn't even happy in death?

Kai
Okay but low-key… why did Kai have to go through so much in this book? It honestly felt like he was being emotionally tortured from start to finish. It all started back in Reckless with that one line that broke all of us—and somehow, it only got worse from there.
His brother was acting completely off, like a stranger half the time, and he was being forced to lose Paedyn on top of that. Like… why? What was the reason? As if that wasn’t enough, he was constantly being put in the impossible position of choosing between Pae and Kitt, over and over again.
Then the truth comes out that he was never the king’s son. Everything he endured, everything he believed about his role, his identity, his duty—it all just crumbled. And the worst part? He never even had to be the Enforcer. He went through all of that suffering and sacrifice for nothing.(I know he was still acting the part and no one really knew that even after but I mean still)
And just when you think it couldn’t possibly get more heartbreaking—he loses his brother. And it’s his fault, even if we all know he truly believed Kitt would dodge. The guilt of that moment is unbearable.
Oh, and let’s not forget—he literally watched himself die. I know it wasn’t technically him, but still. That scene was haunting.
Kai went through so much in this book. More than anyone should ever have to. It was pain layered on pain, and honestly, he deserves the world after all of it.

Paedyn
Okay, let me just start by saying: Paedyn is the only main character I loved consistently throughout the entire series—which is honestly impressive. No matter what chaos was happening around her, she stayed grounded, real, and resilient. And in Fearless, she was at her absolute best.
The way she handled those trials? Genuinely impressive. Even the final one—which was emotionally and physically devastating—she faced with so much bravery and composure. And then finding out the truth about her identity? That would have broken most people. But she processed it, stood tall, and kept going, handling it better than Kitt and Kai combined. Her strength was quiet but unshakable.
I also adored the parallels between her and Kai with Iris and Calum—it was subtle but so powerful. It added depth to both their stories and made it clear that history was repeating itself.
One of my favorite things about Paedyn in this book was how she still tried to be civil with Kitt. Even after everything, even when he was making things nearly impossible, she approached him with empathy. That takes a kind of strength most people don’t have—and it showed just how good her heart really is.
Her bond with Ellie was another highlight. The way they kept trying to honor and remember Adena? It was so beautifully written and added such emotional softness amidst all the chaos. You could see that no matter how much power Paedyn had gained, she never lost her humanity.

Few other opinions
So, Lenny being the real psychic? He’d been calling Pae “princess” from the start, and the fact that she technically was one? Brilliant. It’s those little details ,the ones that seem insignificant at first—that add so much depth and payoff when you look back. I loved that detail. It’s exactly the kind of thing that gets overlooked in other books, but here, it added another layer of meaning.
Now, as much as I hated that epilogue for Kitt (seriously, it still hurts), I have to admit—I loved the mention of Adena and Mak. It was such a comforting full-circle moment, especially after the way Powerful ended, which did not feel like closure. Knowing they finally got their happy ending? So needed. And even though Mak’s role in Fearless was small, every scene with him still hit. He’s one of those characters that just quietly leaves a mark.
Also—can we talk about Edric’s POV? I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did, but it was one of my favorite parts. It gave so much insight into the mess he created and the twisted loyalty he felt toward the crown. I found myself weirdly fascinated by him.
And Iris—I adored her. She had such a quiet strength and complexity, and the moments between her and Edric were unexpectedly compelling. I need a novella about them. Their story felt like it had so much more to tell—there’s definitely more there beneath the surface.
Well theres so much more to say but I cannot form words so this will have to do. I hope you enjoyed todays blog and I hope Fearless was a good end to the series for all of you .
until next time
