Week 1 of Exams Review
Hey and welcome back to 'diaryofanoverthinker' and today I'll be telling you my thoughts on the first week of exams because it's been hectic to say the least and I love to yap. So sit back relax and enjoy (if you can)
Day 1: Math and LO
Ok so Monday was chaotic to say the least. Firstly our exam classes were a mess and took really long to organise, especially mine which would be fine normally except we needed to start as soon as the bell rang since I had 2 long papers. Math being the first paper every grade 8 in that class naturally started to freak out because we always use the full 2 hours for math. We ended up starting 20 minutes late but we got the 20 minutes extra time but at the cost of a longer break but it's fine. The paper itself was fine and I honestly felt quite ok in the paper with the exception of 1 or 2 questions.
Now for LO this paper had me a little nervous for once because our lessons hadn't been that productive all year(but like no one's is like it's LO, we've all seen the Tiktoks). The main issue is that there were going to be 3 essay topics and we had to pick 2 and write essays on them, this had me really worried since LO is more of a case study exam. When I got the exam and read through it, it turned out easy enough and I didn't really struggle that much and I'm glad it's over with.
Day 2 :Geography and Islamic History
I'm not even going to lie at this point Geography is my weaker point in SS. I don't know how to give coordinate in degrees and minutes and I still can't figure out how no matter how long I stare at that page in my textbook. So it's safe to say I was nervous and I had every right to be because that paper was confusing but also had easy parts I guess. Honestly there were some questions I was grateful for but others made me sit there for quite some time because I had no idea what to say. The main issue was the fact that I had to write 3 paragraphs on 3 different topics and it got confusing because a lot of things were repetitive in the syllabus and it confused me. However not to fear because I got my marks in my History paper so its fine.
Now for Islamic History, so I go to a muslim school which means I write Islaamiyat papers which is honestly nice because it's where we score marks for our average. Now Islamic History is a mixed emotion subject like it can be easy but it can also be really hard but you also really love the subject because it's interesting. With this one everyone including me was stressed but we also knew we couldn't learn anything more. The paper itself was fairly easy I enjoyed it way more than geography (I was the only one) there was only 1 question where I had like absolutely no idea what to say but turns out no one did and it was in no ones notes so I'm honestly not worried about it at all.
Day 3:public holiday !!
ok soo this was a nice little break but I did study so we just gonna skip Wednesday
Day 4: Afrikaans P1 and EMS P1
ok Afrikaans doesn't really need a review on this. We got a Gedig even though no one said there was one in the exam and we don't know how to properly answer it.I didn't really understand the begirps but I know it was about a hippo. The only thing I know I got everything right in is my opsomming ,everything else is a 50/50.
Ems on the other hand went amazing as always. Ok my teacher always has mistakes in the paper so except for that it was great. P1 is Financial Literacy which is easy. It was a short paper with simple questions and the only thing that required a lot of time and concentration was the CRJ that is worth 20 marks. Honestly I scored all my marks here because P2 is the part that I'm good at but I can easily mess up because well it's not as easy in my opinion.
Day 5 :History
Real quick side note who puts both SS topics in one week like that doesn't make sense but anyways.
History was actually quite easy thankfully. However we spent most of the morning stressing for well nothing. On Fridays we come out at 11:45 but we only write 1 session so you have from 7:30 till 9:45 (I think) to study and then a break till 10:05 ant then you write for 1 and a half hrs. Anyways after our Geography exam one of my friends found a paper that was really similar to ours(basically it was the same paper) so some classmates of mine went to go find the History version. They were successful and we were using it in the morning to see what we needed to go over when we went to our exam classes (but we also revised everything else). Anyway after a good 2 hours of studying (individually and in groups) we all got the information and were finally ready (hopefully).
We went for break and did a bit of testing just in case and then made our duas all ready for whatever our teacher was gonna hit us with. Turns out it was fairly easy and most of the questions were read the source and answer the questions. Even the Essay had 2 sources and required very little of your own knowledge. It was easy and hopefully we all did well.
Safe to say the whole class was kinda mad but you know we move on and were thankful either way. We also know for sure we will all be taking accounting over history when the time comes despite our grade 10 friends opinion.
Well that was week 1 I'm glad it's over because even though week 2 is more hectic it's subjects I enjoy and that I'm good at sooo I'll be fine إن شاء الله. Anyways that's all for today ,I hope you enjoyed todays blog and as always feel free to contact me at adiaryofanoverthinker@gmail.com .
until next time
