AGGGTM Season 2
Heyy and welcome to 'diaryofanoverthinker'. I am so sorry that I haven't really been posting this year. I honestly haven't had much to write about, and even when I do, Grade 10 is hectic, guys! But I do have some blogs planned for the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for those.
Today, I'll be talking about AGGGTM Season 2 because it was AMAZINGGGG! (I also need to write about Off Campus and The Crash, but I'll get to those, I promise.)
Guys, when I tell you this was one of the best book adaptations I've seen in a while, I mean it. I was especially excited for it because Holly Jackson helped write the script, and I could definitely see the difference. The show stayed true to the book while still bringing something fresh to the story.
So sit back, relax, and allow me to yap about the TV series based on the book that got me into reading.
(P.S if you haven't watched it or read the book maybe don't read this because there will be spoilers.)
Staying true to the book
Okay, so to be totally honest, I don't really remember much from the books because I read them back in Grade 7, which was three years ago. Like, I remembered the main plot about Child Brunswick, and I knew Stanley got killed by the neighbour guy (no, because I had to relive that in the show and it was SO sad ðŸ˜), but all the smaller details were completely lost on me.
However, from what I was seeing, the show was really on track with the book.
Within the first three minutes of Episode 1, we already got the "Talk Nerdy to Me" shirt, the Ravishing joke, AND the pizzazz-less joke, so it already had my respect. I also loved how they incorporated Kill Joy with the whole murder mystery party.
I personally didn't remember Max blaming Sal for Nat and Becca's rape in the books, but apparently that did happen, so it definitely came as a shock. It was a damn good plot twist, though.
One thing that wasn't book-accurate (and honestly isn't that important) was Jamie's laptop password. In the show, it was his song "So Long Silver" backwards, but in the books, I remember it being some childhood nickname or something. Like I said, not a major thing.
We also got "Real men wear floral when trespassing," which is a BIG deal to us book girls. Likeee, yes Ravi, they doooo.
And can we talk about Ravi for a second? I feel like this season's Ravi was way more authentic to Book Ravi than Season 1's Ravi, and I absolutely LOVED that.
Season 2 was AMAZING. Not just as someone who read the books and appreciated all the little details (although I definitely did), but as a show in general.
Another thing that wasn’t in the books, but I actually ended up enjoying, is Max’s cousin, Robin. Since he wasn’t in the books at all (not even mentioned), I’m not really sure why they added him, but I did feel like he added a lot to the suspense and drama around Max’s storyline.
It just made everything feel a bit more intense and layered, so I can definitely appreciate that change.I mean, it was genuinely amazing, and I haven't enjoyed a show this much in a VERYYY long time.
I also LOVED the scene between Becca and Pip. Something about it just felt so wholesome, and I really loved seeing them connect like that. It made everything feel a little more human amidst all the mystery, grief, and chaos.
Overall, this season completely lived up to my expectations and then some. If you haven't watched it yet, what are you doing? Go watch it right now so we can scream about it together. The "Who will look for you when you're gone?" notes weren't actually part of Good Girl, Bad Blood, which is the book Season 2 was based on. That whole storyline only appears in As Good As Dead.
But as someone who has read the books, I really appreciated the subtle foreshadowing to the DT Killer. It was such a cool little detail for book readers because, at the time, it just seems like a creepy, random note. Looking back, though, it was definitely hinting at what was coming later.
I love it when adaptations do things like that because it rewards fans of the books without completely confusing people who are only watching the show.
Stanley Forbes
Okay, I'm sorry, but Stanley deserves his own section because watching the show had me reliving this the trauma.
Guys, reading about his death was sad enough, and then I had to actually watch it happen. He did not deserve that at all.
Stanley was such a sweetie, and none of it was really his fault. He was just a kid. His dad was the reason he got involved in everything, and that honestly makes it even sadder.
Plus, he actually liked being Stanley. He was friends with Jamie, and he literally tried to save Pip even when his own life was in danger. He was brave, loyal, and genuinely cared about people.
And then he died.
AND THEN, even after he died, people were still hating on him and blaming him for things. Like, leave my boy alone ðŸ˜.
Pip's reaction made it way more gut-wrenching too. Seeing how devastated she was just made the whole thing hurt even more. Every scene involving Stanley had me sitting there like, "Noooo, please, not again."(because like he looked so timid and sweet and I knew it was going to happen.)
Justice for Stanley forever. Likeee he was my favourite character in Gr 7 and he still is.
The soundtrack
Okay, can we talk about the soundtrack for a second?
Every single show that's come out recently seems to have an AMAZING soundtrack (even TSITP, even though that probably cost them a fortune ðŸ˜).
Likeee, the soundtrack worked so well with the vibe and plot of AGGGTM. It genuinely added so much to the experience, and it was something I really appreciated both as a book reader and as someone just watching the show in general.
But I HAVE to talk about the ending song.
Having "Doomsday" play at the end, especially with that ending, had me staring at the wall for a solid few minutes afterwards. Like, there was absolutely no need for them to make it "Doomsday"...
(I mean, it worked perfectly.)
But GUYSSSS, that was diabolical.
The song fit the scene so well that it somehow made the ending even more suspenseful (because doomsday is, in fact, near 👀) and really added to the pain Pip is feeling at that point. As a book reader, hearing that title play over the final scene felt almost cruel because it subtly hints at what's still to come for Pip.
Whoever made that music choice knew exactly what they were doing, and honestly, I both respect and resent them for it.Like as if that song wasn't sad enough before.
Overall
Season 2 was AMAZING. Not just as someone who read the books and appreciated all the little details (although I definitely did), but as a show in general.
The soundtrack, the plot twists, the way they transitioned from scene to scene to build suspense, how they portrayed Pip's guilt and PTSD, and the cliff-hangers at the end of every episode that kept you hooked—it was all done so well.
I mean, it was genuinely amazing, and I haven't enjoyed a show this much in a VERYYY long time.
Go watch it right now.
So yeah, those are my thoughts on the AGGGTM Season 2 adaptation. I’m really excited for Season 3, and I have very high hopes after this one, because that’s a book I feel will be really hard to adapt perfectly but I do have hope.
This season was amazing, and I was absolutely hooked the entire time.
I really hope you enjoyed todays blog
until next time
