Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children

Heyy and welcome to 'diaryofanoverthinker'.Recently, I've traveled back in time. Specifically to September 3rd, 1943.

Okay, that's not entirely true I just rewatched Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. But saying I traveled back in time makes for a way cooler intro, so we're going with that. Not to mention, watching that movie was basically like traveling back in time because it was one of my favourite movies as a kid. And I have to say, for a kids' movie, it is still so good when you watch it at 16.

Soo sit back relax and allow me to take you back to September 3rd 1943

Humour

So, I must say, it was a lot funnier than I remembered. Maybe when I was younger I just didn't catch all the jokes, or maybe I simply didn't find them as funny. Either way, considering this is a kids' movie, it was surprisingly entertaining for an older audience.

Plot

Now, of course, I have to point out that the movie isn't exactly book-accurate. I was actually surprised by how many of the changes I still managed to pick up on, considering I read the books quite a while ago. But honestly, once you ignore that, the plot is so good and really well thought out.

I mean... Jake falling for his grandpa's ex is a tad bit weird, but then again, they are peculiars, so I guess it makes sense... kind of.

Now, here's something I 1000% overthought and that is almost definitely not true at all (proof that English class has trained us to overanalyze every piece of literature because apparently nothing is ever "just a movie").

I started wondering if it could've been a satire or at least had some symbolic inspiration behind it. Again, it wasn't actually a satire and that's not what Ransom Riggs intended, but hear me out. The Hollows' full name is Hollowgast, which sounds oddly similar to "Holocaust," and the story is set during World War II. On top of that, the Hollows are hunting and killing Peculiars, who could be interpreted as representing a persecuted group, such as the Jewish people.

Now, do I genuinely think this was intentional? Probably not. I think my English teacher has just permanently rewired my brain to look for hidden meanings where there probably aren't any. But it is a pretty cool way to look at it. Then again, it's probably just a creepy little kids' movie that I absolutely LOVE, and I'm reading way too much into it.

Fiction or reality?

Now, for those of you who are actually into conspiracy theories and are deep into this fandom, we could argue that all of this is real and we're just not Peculiars. I mean... it would explain why some people can see things while others can't.

That also reminded me of another conspiracy theory I came across recently: what if people with mental illnesses are actually just more aware of things that the rest of us can't see, and society dismisses them as "crazy" because of it?Because they know things they shouldn't.

Now, before anyone comes for me, I know that's an incredibly far-fetched theory, and there's no evidence that it's true. I just think it's one of those fascinating "what if?" rabbit holes to think about.

And don't even get me started on the photographs used in the books and movie. Most of them were actual vintage photographs found at flea markets, which makes everything feel so much more real. Sure, many of them have perfectly ordinary explanations or could have been edited—but there's still that tiny part of my brain that's like... what if?

srsly read the comments of this you'll see i'm not the only crazy person

Soo yeah, basically, this movie is really good and is peak weird-kid obsession, which I obviously love. Watching it again when you're older just makes it interesting in so many different ways, and I somehow enjoyed it even more than I did as a kid.

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed my vlog, if you have any better theories please feel free to let me know.

Until next time
